The Waldschneise at Kappe is a good 1,500 metres long – a blue run from the Panoramabahn mountain station down to the Kappe valley station.

Our season runs from mid-December to mid-March. Thanks to our state-of-the-art snow-making system, we can offer you almost uninterrupted winter sports fun during this period. Of course, we cannot provide long-term weather forecasts. To find out more about the weather in Winterberg, simply check the ‘Weather’ section on our website.
Have a look at the panoramic map. Depending on whether it is a T-bar lift or a chairlift, the lifts are marked with the relevant symbols. You can view the map directly online or download it to your computer. Our on-site piste maps also feature these symbols.
Virtually all winter sports equipment that is attached to the feet is permitted, provided it is not motorised. You are therefore allowed to use snowboards, snowblades and snowscoots. Snowmobiles are not permitted. Snow tubes are an exception. For safety reasons, they are not permitted on toboggan runs or ski slopes, as they are virtually impossible to control. Please note: Not all winter sports equipment, even if it is permitted in principle, can be transported on every lift. We cannot make a general statement on this here. It depends on the specific piece of winter sports equipment and the lift in question.
Of course, you can go tobogganing at the Skiliftkarussell Winterberg. We have three dedicated toboggan runs and toboggan lifts (Nos. 1, 16 and 20) on Astenstraße, at the Kappe and on the Bremberg. Sledges can be hired directly at Lift No. 1 on the toboggan run. All ski hire shops in the immediate vicinity of the toboggan lifts also hire out sledges.
No, the tickets are only valid on consecutive days.
The 10 FIS Rules have been issued by the International Ski Federation (FIS). They are rules of conduct, not laws. A breach cannot therefore be punished by law. However, it is generally recognised that they help to reduce the risks on the ski slopes. All skiers and snowboarders must therefore adhere to the rules – for their own safety. Should an accident occur and lead to a legal dispute, the courts usually base their judgement on the FIS Rules. If an accident is attributable to a breach of the rules, the person who failed to comply with them is normally liable for the accident. Winter sports enthusiasts should therefore follow these rules closely, both in their own interests and for the sake of safety on the slopes.
As soon as there is enough snowfall – ideally around 30 centimetres. Or as soon as temperatures drop significantly below 0 degrees for an extended period, creating good conditions for snowmaking. A minimum of minus two degrees, or better still minus four degrees, is required to make snow.

However, it may be that the items are not handed in there until some time has passed. This depends on how quickly they are found.
Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more people. Please refer to the price list for the rates. No other discounts are available.
Visitors with a 70 per cent disability can purchase a one-day ski pass at the price of a child’s ticket at the on-site ticket offices. To do so, they must present the original of a valid disability card. For children with a disability of 70 per cent or more, the accompanying adult receives a ticket at the price of a child’s ticket. Whether you can use the lifts depends on the nature of the disability. For example, wheelchair users cannot use many of the chairlifts. The safety bars on modern chairlifts do not currently allow this. This should not be a problem on T-bar lifts. However, these are not necessarily located near the typical boarding points and are therefore not necessarily within the vicinity of the large car parks.
On busy winter sports weekends, there may be longer queues at some ski lifts. Here are a few tips: if you come during the week, you’ll be able to enjoy more runs. It’s also worth arriving early. That way, the usual entry points are much less crowded. Then choose a lovely, less crowded run. There are plenty of them, even at the weekend! Just have a look around. It’s well worth it!
There are many hire outlets at the car parks and at the entrances to the Skiliftkarussell. There you can hire ski and snowboard equipment, usually sledges as well, and often cross-country skis or snowshoes. Please check with the relevant rental outlets for details of their range of equipment and prices. You can find contact details on this website under ‘Ski Resort / Ski Rental Outlets’.
Some hire companies offer storage facilities. You can find their contact details on this website under ‘Ski Resort / Ski Hire’. Please enquire directly with them.
Overnight stays in motorhomes, caravans, etc. in the car parks are not permitted. The campsites are provided for this purpose. The campsites have dedicated pitches for motorhomes.
The Skiliftkarussell Winterberg is an alpine ski resort and therefore only provides information on its ski lifts. Information on cross-country ski trails can be found at www.wintersport-arena.de/nordisch-wandern/skigebiete-und-schneehoehen/
In the event of a skiing accident, a refund will only be issued if the ski pass has been handed in at one of our ticket offices. Day passes are non-refundable. For multi-day passes, a refund will be given for any unused days. A medical certificate from a local doctor must be presented when claiming a cash refund. No cash refund can be made for family members who leave early with the injured person. No refund will be given in the event of illness.
In principle, it is not possible to say which items of winter sports equipment can be transported on individual ski lifts. The range of equipment is too varied, and new types are constantly being developed. Furthermore, individual ski lifts have different specifications. For example, snow bikes or monoskis used by people with disabilities cannot be transported on chairlifts. This is partly for technical reasons, and partly because we cannot permit such equipment on chairlifts for safety reasons. Transport on T-bar lifts, however, is possible. We recommend playing it safe and checking with the lift ticket office before purchasing a ticket, and, if necessary, using T-bar lifts instead.
Flying drones over the ski resort, as well as take-off and landing, are strictly prohibited throughout the entire ski resort.
